Learn some Galician

Galician (galego) is a romance language spoken by around 2.5 million people predominantly in Galicia.

Galician and Portuguese shared a common ancestor (which itself originated from Latin), and the languages started to diverge during the 14th century.

There is some (academic) debate among linguists as to whether Galician and Portuguese should be considered as co-dialects (both stemming from Galician-Portuguese), or as separate languages.

The Lords Prayer in Galician

See the Lords prayer in Portuguese for a comparison with Portuguese as spoken in Portugal.

Noso Pai

Noso Pai que estás no ceo,
santificado sexa o teu nome,
veña a nós o teu reino
e fágase a túa vontade
aquí na terra coma no ceo.
O noso pan de cada día dánolo hoxe,
e perdóano-las nosas ofensas,
como tamén perdoamos nós a quen nos ten ofendido,
e non nos deixes caer na tentación,
mais líbranos do mal.
